In Observations of Smoke and Air, I use cotton to form air, smoke, and water. The scenes are built in camera using the backsides of vintage Sears portrait studio backdrops as the landscape palette. Honest rigging lets the wires show. Each scene features tiny hapless observer contemplating what they are witnessing. Like the observer in the images, my work seeks to study perceptions of our relationships with technology, nature, and society.
